Point Pleasant Schedule of Events

Hello Race Fans,

Less than one week to go and we'll be racing!!! Here's what you need to know.

If you need a hotel, please go to www.njoffshore.com and click on the hotel link. We have several local hotels that are race sponsors.

ALL VOLUNTEERS NEED TO ATTEND THE VOLUNTEER MEETING AT 5:30 ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT JENKINSONS NORTH. Jenkinsons North is on the boardwalk, just 100 yards south of the inlet. It's also right behind the Dry Pit Parking lot. So look for the boats and find a place to park.

LAND VOLUNTEERS should be in contact with Toni Potthoff by Wednesday so we can formulate a schedule of people to assist with getting the boats in the pits. One or two boats will arrive on Thursday, while most teams will arrive on Friday and Saturday.

Friday night at 7pm, we'll need some volunteers to help run the parade. We'll stage right in the Dry Pits, turning south on Ocean Ave, turn right on Arnold Ave and then drive right through the Point Pleasant Classic Car Cruise Night. This is a big deal in downtown Point Pleasant as hundreds of classic cars line the streets and fill the parking lots. Then at the end of the parade route, the Elks Club has invited us in for a party. The teams can park and come to the party or just head back to the pits. Again, parking assistance will be needed at the pits after the parade.

Saturday all boats will arrive and get settled in. Volunteers have a meeting at Jenkinsons North from 5:30 to 6:30 where you'll receive two T-Shirts (nice shirts this year thanks to Corona and Geico) and two tickets to the party. Then we'll walk down the boardwalk to the main Jenkinsons pavilion for the party from 7 - 9. Corona and wine are included plus a nice buffet, all thanks to our sponsors.

Sunday is race day - All boats need to head onto the race course at noon to establish their positions, chase off any fishing boats and prepare for a 1pm start. Start praying now for good weather, remember last year's race got cancelled due to fog.

CHARGE UP YOUR VHF RADIOS AND CELL PHONES. Every volunteer boat MUST have VHF Ch 78!!!! If you don't have a VHF radio, buy a handheld, every boat should have a VHF radio on board. Race control can only talk to you if you have a VHF CH 78 radio, please be prepared. We don't have radios to loan out. Please be prepared and have one with a good battery!

Racers know that when they come to Point Pleasant, they are going to be watched over by the largest and most experienced group of race volunteers anywhere in the country. Once again, we must thank the people on this list for giving of their time and effort to keep our racers safe. If your name is on this list and you can't make it, please reply to this email immediatly. If you see your name on this list, please take this as a serious commitment. It's a fun weekend for everyone involved but never forget, we have a job to do. To keep our racers safe.

Toni Pottoff-NJ Offshore President

Hello Race Fans,
The weather is here and boats are starting to hit the water already this week, so it’s time to start getting here for the 2007 Point Pleasant Beach Offshore Race. The NJ Offshore committee has been busy over the winter and we have some great news to share with you. Mark your calendar for Friday September 7th thru Sunday September 9th – Race Day. Jenkinsons is back in a big way. They have agreed to allow us to use the North Parking lot for the dry pits. This is the parking lot at the North end of the boardwalk, just 100 yards south of the inlet. This is a huge lot and we’ve used it in the past. It’s a great location with loads of traffic in the immediate area. Jenkinsons will also be putting on one of their world-class parties on Saturday night for all race teams and volunteers. We’ve also secured the Manasquan River Club to use as the wet pits. This is the site that we’ve used many times in the past. It’s up the Manasquan River about a mile west of the Rt 70 Bridge. The facility will have a crane, plus the marina offers a travel lift and boat ramp. It’s a great facility, about eight miles from the dry pits. This year, we are thrilled to welcome back the Jersey Boyz and the OPA teams to once again do battle between Point Pleasant Beach and Bay Head. OPA is gaining racers all the time due to their inexpensive racing format that’s high on competition and fun and low on stress. It seems to be a winning combination as the OPA fleet grows from year to year. We’ll also see team AMF back at the Jersey Shore complete with their new turbine powered bright green Miss Geico, a 185 miles per hour rocket that is a definite fan favorite.

Manasquan River Club has free ramp access Saturday and Sunday to all racers. The travel lift is available both days for $10.00 per foot round trip. The crane will be on site 8:00am Sunday and is free to the race teams. Depending on the tide the water in this area can be shallow at times so please let Smitty know if you will need a tow out.

Because of Point Pleasant Beach's "no open container" in public law, which is strictly enforced, and the fact that the pit area is in Jenkinson's Parking Lot, which is part of Jenkinson's Boardwalk and has a liquor license absolutely no alcohol is allowed in the dry pit area.

Thank you for your attention on this, Regards, Toni Potthoff, NJ Offshore President

Hello Race Fans,

If your planning to attend the Point Pleasant Offshore Race next Sunday, you'll want to read this.

For the past few years, we've been running an oval that goes two miles down the beach, from Jenkinsons to Johnson Ave in Bay Head. This course is a total of 4.5 miles. Depending upon the weather, sea conditions and number of boats racing, we may shorten this course down to about 3 miles.

If it's a nice calm day and we have enough boats, we'll run two short course races, which means more laps in front of the fans on the beach. The short course would run from Jenkinsons south to Osborne Ave, then out almost a 1/3 mile before turning north to the inlet. This would be 1.1/4 miles down the beach and 1/3 of a mile in the turns at each end.

If it's a rough day, we'll run the long course and run all the boats in one race to get it over with quickly as our Volunteer fleet isn't too happy when sitting in a rough sea for too long of a time. (Can't blame them, sometimes it gets snotty in the afternoon)

So how will you know which course we are using? Look for the orange turn pillows. We use five of them.

Start/Finish is in front of the White Sands Hotel Turn 1 is the southern most buoy. It will either be off Osborne Ave for the short course or off Johnson St in Bay Head if it's the long course.

Turn 2 is the offshore buoy, straight out 1/3 of a mile from turn 1.

Turn 3 is an offshore buoy, straight out 1/3 of a mile from Jenkinsons.

Turn 4 is in front of Jenkinsons.

Of course, the place to watch the race is from is Jenkinsons as there will be an announcer giving play by play coverage over their PA system. And this race will be aired live over the Internet on www.talkoffshore.com.

More info to follow, stay tuned to your email.

Ron
