Riviera Beach, FL - April 5th 2012- Powerboat Palm Beach, the promoters of the 2012 Palm Beach World Offshore Championship, presented last night to the Jupiter Town Council. The Mayor and the Town Council gave approval to continue through the permitting process leading up to the World Championship race which is set for October 18th through 21st, 2012.
The Jupiter Town Council heard a presentation from the Palm Beach Sports Commission and Powerboat Palm Beach, with support from the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County and the Northern Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce. The Town of Jupiter will be an essential partner throughout the race, with the dry pits area to be staged at Carlin Park, which will become transformed in to Race Village during the event.
With an expected impact of over $10 million dollars to the local economy and thousands of hotel rooms expected to be filled, this event promises to be one of the premier marine and sporting events of the year for Jupiter and for Palm Beach County. The event will be free and open to the public both on the water and at Race Village in Carlin Park and will include food, music and activities for kids.
According to Nick Scafidi of Powerboat Palm Beach: "The green light from the Town of Jupiter was a major mile stone not only for this race but for the sport. We are pleased to hear that the Mayor and council members are behind this event. We look forward to working close with the town this year and years to come!!"
The race, which is sanctioned by the Offshore Powerboat Association and will feature four full days of racing and activities will include testing and preparation on Thursday, a preliminary race on Friday, a day of rest and repair on Saturday with activities throughout Race Village at Carlin Park and leading up to the Championship race on Sunday. Boats from 24 to 50 feet in length with compete on Sunday to determine the winners in seven different classes, with speeds ranging from 70 mph to over 170 mph.
