Hello Race Fans,

We hope that you and your family are having a wonderful summer and have had a chance to enjoy a few days on the water. The weather has been great, the racing has been tight and thankfully, no one has been hurt, so overall, it's been a great summer.

OPA is enjoying another banner year as more teams are coming out to test their metal on the racecourse. The first race in Algonac Michigan got rained out, so the teams had to wait until Ocean City to actually race. Ocean City MD was a fantastic event as Geico pulled out all the stops and 42 boats from Class 6 to the turbine powered Miss Geico ran up and down the beach in front of thousands and thousands of fans on a bright sunny Sunday afternoon. From there the teams went back to the great lakes and had another exciting event with over 50 boats in St Clair Michigan. In St Clair Miss Geico and Budweiser Select put on an incredible show racing deck to deck at 185mph for the entire race. Congratulations to the Miss Geico team for winning a hard fought battle. The next race is in Patchogue Long Island on Sunday August 26th. And then it's onto Point Pleasant in early September. For more info about OPA Racing and the rest of the schedule go to www.oparacing.org.

Hello Race Fans,
The weather is breaking and boats are starting to hit the water so it’s time to start planning for the 2007 Point Pleasant Beach Offshore Race. The NJ Offshore committee has been busy over the winter and we have some great news to share with you.Mark your calendar for Sunday September 9th – Race Day. Jenkinsons is back in a big way. They have agreed to allow us to use the North Parking lot for the dry pits. This is the parking lot at the North end of the boardwalk, just 100 yards south of the inlet. This is a huge lot and we’ve used it in the past. It’s a great location with loads of traffic in the immediate area. Jenkinsons will also be putting on one of their world-class parties on Saturday night for all race teams and volunteers. We’ve also secured the Manasquan River Club to use as the wet pits. This is the site that we’ve used many times in the past. It’s up the Manasquan River about a mile west of the Rt 70 Bridge. The facility will have a crane, plus the marina offers a travel lift and boat ramp. It’s a great facility, about eight miles from the dry pits. This year, we are thrilled to welcome back the Jersey Boyz and the OPA teams to once again do battle between Point Pleasant Beach and Bay Head. OPA is gaining racers all the time due to their inexpensive racing format that’s high on competition and fun and low on stress. It seems to be a winning combination as the OPA fleet grows from year to year. We’ll also see team AMF back at the Jersey Shore complete with their new turbine powered bright green Miss Geico, a 200 miles per hour rocket that is a definite fan favorite. At this time we are asking for interested parties to volunteer for land and water duties. We’ll find a job for any size boat and we could use a dozen or more land volunteers to help in the dry and wet pits. If you are interested in helping out on the water or on the land, please sign up at
www.njoffshore.homestead.com/volunteer.html.
Over the summer, you’ll get more emails with details as the race date gets close. If you plan on racing in Point Pleasant, please fill out this form so we know how many boats to expect and how much room you’ll need in the dry pits. Please click here and tell us about your team.
