OPA Racing, or the Offshore Powerboat Association, is a professional offshore powerboat racing sanctioning body.

THE ORIGINS OF OPA
Founded on the East Coast by a tight-knit community of competitors affectionately known as "The Jersey Boyz," OPA distinguished itself from other associations by emphasizing affordability and accessibility. Unlike organizations that charged high, per-race entry fees, OPA utilized a flat annual membership fee to keep the sport accessible to "lunch-bucket" racers. Historically, OPA has hosted major racing circuits including a number of historic stops along the East Coast including the iconic Benihana Offshore Grand Prix affectionately known as the Indy 500 of Offshore Racing. OPA continues to this day with their motto, 'Built in the Pits. Proven on the Water.™ and By Racers, For Racers™.'

EVOLUTION & MODERN DAY
Over the decades, OPA classes evolved to feature a mix of open and closed-canopy boats, managing safety and performance limits for different engine types and hull shapes. The organization continually updates its racing format to keep competition tight while maintaining its ethos of By Racers, For Racers™.
